#BecauseofValerie and all the kids!

This year my team will walk for both my mom and dad. My mom, Rochelle passed away on August 10th. She was the kindest most loving mother and grandmother. We all miss her so much. My dad, Israel Rubin passed away on January 30, 2017 after being diagnosed in late November with stage 4 lung cancer. He joins the ranks of brave cancer fighters whose (booming) voice may be silenced but who will never be forgotten. I understand the courage my Dad showed during those two short months on so many levels. I have spent the last 19 years advocating for children and their families dealing with cancer and blood disorders. In November 2013 I fought my own breast cancer battle and am fortunate to say that I am 10 years in remission. It is very much because of the children and families of The Valerie Fund. They taught me to be brave when I did not feel like it. I received email, texts, and videos cheering me on from Valerie Fund kids who understood what I was going through. I will never forget the ten- year old who gave me guidance. Seeing the world through their eyes they gave me hope that it would be better soon. Thank you
