All Hail Ali Hale

Hi! I'm Alison and I'm celebrating 11 years cancer free by participating in the Valerie Fund Walk again this year!!!!



Our first year, we raised an outstanding $28,141 and won second place in the walk for "Most Money Raised". So far, we have over $100,000 for TVF! Thank you to everyone who has donated to Team Ali and helped show love to the Valerie Fund kids. Celebrating 11 years cancer free and all the great things that have happened in my life since then has been incredible. We also walk in memory of my grandmother, Virginia Batta ("Nanny" to me), who walked with us for 3 years up until we sadly lost her after a courageous battle with cancer. We know she will be with us in spirit!



I was diagnosed with Stage 2A Hodgkin's Lymphoma on November 15th, 2013. My tumor, located on the left side of my neck, was 11cm by 8cm at its largest. In only six months, with help of Dr. Kam and the entire Valerie Fund team at Newark Beth Israel, paired with the loving support my family and friends, I beat cancer. The struggles of battling cancer have made me live every day of my life with a new sense of gratitude.



As Charles R. Swindoll once said, "Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it." Cancer has helped me appreciate life and all its blessings. In 2018 I made my NYU thesis film 'Scar', which was based my story of being diagnosed with cancer at 17, how it affected myself and my family, what I learned from it, and the anxiety that comes with the years after treatment. It helped me share the deepest parts of my cancer journey and connect with others who have been through it - in an art form that I love. It even won some awards at film festivals! It is things like that that remind me why I walk with The Valerie Fund - knowing there are kids like me that will beat cancer so they can continue to persevere and follow their dreams.
