About The Valerie Fund

Welcome St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital Center For Pediatric Cancers and Blood Disorders To The Valerie Fund Family

[Maplewood, NJ, October 4, 2016) The Valerie Fund is pleased to announce the dedication of their newest and seventh Valerie Fund Children's Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders was held on September 21st. About 80 people were in attendance at the Paterson-based outpatient facility as Valerie Fund founders Sue and Ed Goldstein unveiled the new signage and bronze plaque that graces the entrance of each of the seven centers in the healthcare network. The expansion into Passaic County is a new geographic area for The Valerie Fund and more than 1,000 critically ill children and their families from other parts of New Jersey will benefit from financial support, staffing additions and facility upgrades. A newly renovated playroom is already nearing completion. "We are extremely happy to have St Joseph's Children's Medical Center join our family of six Valerie Fund Children Centers for Cancer and Blood Disorders throughout New Jersey and New York City. St. Joseph's is an excellent hospital and will now connect patients and their families in the northern part of New Jersey with a Valerie Fund Center close to their home. With the additional resources that the Valerie Fund will supply, St Joseph's will be able to add additional psychosocial staff to complement their fine medical staff. "stated Ed Goldstein co-founder of The Valerie Fund. The similarities of philosophies and operations at St. Joseph's Children Hospital and at The Valerie Fund Centers means their interface will have a significant impact on the local community and on the most vulnerable . "The partnership with the Valerie Fund is a major step forward in our mission to caring for the special needs of children," said Kevin J. Slavin, President & CEO of St. Joseph's Healthcare System. "Together, we can bring our collective efforts to enhancing treatment options for our youngest patients and their families, expanding on the world-class pediatric cancer care provided at the St. Joseph's Children's Hospital." The Valerie Fund is excited about extending its mission to St Joseph's Children's Hospital and the Patterson community." Stated, Dominic DiBari, chairman of The Valerie Fund Board.

Since the first Valerie Fund Children's Center opened at Summit's Overlook Medical Center in 1978, the extraordinary growth of The Valerie Fund has been rooted in founders Sue and Ed Goldstein's own heartbreaking experiences and their desire to provide compassionate care close to home.
The Valerie Fund integrates top-notch medical care with a growing range of customized therapeutic services offered by social workers, child life specialists, educational liaisons, psychologists and specialists in integrative medicine and palliative care. While rarely covered by health insurance, these social services play a vital role in addressing quality of life issues during the treatment and healing process.
