I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia on August 4, 2011, at the age of 12. Although it was a life changing day, at that moment, I couldn’t comprehend much, due to the fact that I was 12. I believed it was just a flu and I couldn’t understand the big words the doctors were telling me. When it came to the part of breaking down my treatment procedure, I was lost. I didn't understand the seriousness of how hard and life changing that predicament was going to be.Time went on and things got more and more complicated for me. I needed a port transplanted in me, I was losing all my energy, I was constantly weak and sick, and I felt like I was losing myself. Those moments made me realize how serious my condition was,and it opened my eyes and made me realize that I needed to be strong, not just for me but for my family. It's true when people say, "cancer changes a person's life", it changes the person that's been diagnosed with it and it changes the people around them. Cancer has taught me so much and it's what made me who I am today. I've cried, smiled, hurt, and cheered, each time something along the way happens. I've managed to understand the concept of how life can be cruel sometimes and I've learned to grasp and handle it. Learning from the pain and hurt taught me that life will always throw me curve balls. and it can be devastating and frustrating to handle, but the way we handle it is what determines how strong and courageous an individual is. I will not only be doing this for me, but for those fighting it too, to the families whose lost a loved one or knows a person close to their heart who is fighting against cancer. To the people I know personally who have lost someone because of it or if you're going through it or someone you truly love has been affected by it. I'm raising money to let you know there are people out here who are truly there for you.
