Team Mushface was formed when my son John started his journey with his optic glioma back in Feb of 2019. He started with a brain bleed which caused a TBI and many endocrine issues, including two rare diseases (Diabetes Insipidous and Hypothalamic Obesity). Exactly a year later we learned that the bleed was caused by an Optic Glioma. Due to his tumor starting to grow and then metastasizing to his spine he started chemo with the Valerie Center in April of 2025. As of March 23, 2026 he has finished his fifth cycle (three more to go!) and all his scans are good and show the chemo is working and he is stable. With all of that, the Valerie Center is an amazing place filled with amazing people. They show caring and support for not just John, but for his family as well.
All this started seven years ago. Through everything he has been through John has kept his kind heart and his ability to make someone smile.
