Letter from the Executive Director (April 2021)
Last year presented many challenges for all of us. Yet I'm proud to share with everyone that 2020 was very successful for The Valerie Fund, as we were even more impactful to the children treated at our seven Valerie Fund Centers. While taking all the necessary safety precautions, the centers were always open for the kids, as they have been for over 40 years. Last year saw 21,000+ pediatric hematology and oncology visits to the centers as children came in for diagnosis and treatment throughout the year.
The social workers, child life specialists, psychologists, educational liaisons, and everyone else were always available to provide the highest quality of care close to home for our kids and their families. This all took place as the world was seemingly turned upside down. This is truly what makes The Valerie Fund so very special and why we cannot thank everyone enough for their tireless dedication to our kids in each and every Valerie Fund Center!
Last year showed how The Valerie Fund can pivot quickly and meet new challenges. When our social workers pinpointed new financial strains on many of our families, The Valerie Fund responded by dramatically increasing emergency funds to ensure our families had food, rent, and other essential needs. Add to that the dozens of laptops we secured so that every child could continue to attend school virtually and you can comprehend the strength of The Valerie Fund community.
In 2020, The Valerie Fund again provided over $4,000,000 to support the centers, camp, our scholars, and other programs. This continued unabated because of your support and your trust in how we improve the lives of 5,000 kids and their families. This newsletter is our way of saying THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU for always being here to support some of the bravest kids you will ever know.
Be well, stay safe, and thank you for being part of The Valerie Fund family!
