Recreation Therapy
How can you heal through play? Through purposeful play and activities, Recreation Therapists help treat the whole child, supporting them in managing the intense psychological, social, and physical toll of long-term care. Our Recreation Therapists support children and teens through the emotional, social, and developmental challenges that can come with serious illness and treatment. Through individualized therapeutic play, creative arts, coping activities, normalization, and leisure interventions, they help patients maintain quality of life, build resilience, and continue engaging in age-appropriate experiences throughout treatment.
Our Children’s Center Recreation Therapists work closely with patients and families to provide meaningful activities that reduce stress and anxiety, encourage self-expression, and promote positive coping throughout hospitalizations, clinic visits, procedures, and long-term treatment. Their role also includes fostering social connection, celebrating milestones, and creating moments of joy and normalcy in a medical environment.
As a CTRS (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist) with a pediatric specialization, they tailor interventions to each child’s developmental level, interests, and emotional needs while collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to provide family-centered care.
